Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent to the outside provider operating that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its result. We do not keep or log those search terms on our systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other direct message may be retained long enough to respond and manage the exchange. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by law.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our systems receive routine technical information when a page loads:
- Page-view times and the pages visited
- Device type and operating system
- IP address assigned to the device
- Browser name and version
- Time spent on viewed pages
- Referring website, when available
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. They and analytics services help aggregate traffic, such as popular pages and points where visits end. Browser controls can block cookies, although doing so may change how some features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Routing a requested search to the selected provider
- Operating and improving site speed and availability
- Diagnosing errors and technical failures
- Measuring which information visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect inferred interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
We do not build, maintain, or sell a database of personal criminal records. The published material explains how official Haywood County files can be requested from the Sheriff, the courts, the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation, and the North Carolina Sex Offender and Public Protection Registry. This is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, and visitor data is not assembled into consumer reports or third-party criminal profiles.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Information submitted to one of those tools is handled under that company's privacy policy. Each provider controls its retention and sharing practices, so review those terms before running a search.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Haywood County offices, North Carolina courts, state agencies, or outside search services. Once a visitor leaves, the destination's privacy policy controls the visit. Review it before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own systems to measure activity across websites and select targeted ads.
Who Might See Your Data
Personal data is not sold. Limited information may be available to:
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and performance
- Search partners processing a query
- Advertising networks placing ads
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security measures protect collected data. No internet system can guarantee perfect protection, so we cannot promise that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. Information identified as belonging to a minor will be deleted when a valid request is received.
Your Data Rights
Applicable North Carolina and federal law may provide rights over personal data. North Carolina's Public Records Law governs government records, while N.C.G.S. 114-19 and 114-19.1 govern SBI criminal-history dissemination. For data held by this private site, a visitor may:
- Request access to personal information we hold
- Ask that inaccurate personal information be corrected
- Request deletion where applicable
- Object to certain processing where the law permits
